Dear Little Fort Families,
This letter is to share excitement as the 2025-2026 school year approaches. It is an honor to serve as principal, and the upcoming year will be special. It marks 27 years in the Waukegan Public Schools District and 11 years as principal of Little Fort Elementary.
The journey began as a middle school teacher at Jefferson (Lewis) Middle School. There, communications, math, and health were taught to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. After seven years, the role moved to the District Office. The responsibilities included coordinating staff development, overseeing new teacher training and mentoring programs, and working with math teachers across the district. These leadership roles provided experience in using data to improve instruction and have prepared for the work at Little Fort, alongside the staff, students, and families.
This year, the staff will focus on differentiating for small group instruction. This means teaching will be tailored to meet each child's strengths and needs. Observational and anecdotal data will be used to ensure that what is taught is being learned. This will be done through engaging activities, higher-level questioning, and thoughtful dialogue among teachers and students. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher at any time with questions about their learning.
The connection between school and home is crucial for success. This year, "Coffee Talks" with parents will be hosted to encourage informal conversations about how to best support children and families. In addition, the Guardian Parent Teacher Organization (GPTO) is active and welcomes new members. Any amount of time is appreciated, as parent feedback is a vital part of a successful school. Please look for dates and times for these events.
The upcoming school year is anticipated with enthusiasm. Contact the school at 224-303-3700 or email [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
In Partnership,
Amy Grossman
Principal, Little Fort Elementary School
