About our Principal

Principal's Corner
Thank you for visiting the Principal's Corner!

My name is Amy Grossman and I am the Principal of Little Fort Elementary School. The 2022-2023 school year will mark my 23rd year in the Waukegan Public Schools District and 8th year as the Principal of Little Fort. I am a wife and a mom of two children, David (17) and Ellie (11). I began my journey in Waukegan Public Schools as a middle school teacher at Jefferson (Lewis)  Middle School. There I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade Communications, Math, and Health. After 7 years, I transferred over to the District Office where I worked with the math teachers at all 5 middle schools, coordinated district-wide staff development, oversaw new teacher training, the district mentoring program and the district peer coaching program. I sat on the District Leadership Team and led a group of administrators and teachers toward achieving the goal “How do we use data to drive instruction?”  My wide range of leadership opportunities has led me here, working with the most amazing staff, students and families!

This school year, our staff will be working on differentiating for small group instruction. This means that your child will be given specific instruction based on their area of strengths and areas of growth. As a staff, we will analyze both observational, as well as, anecdotal data. We will check to make sure that what we are trying to teach is what the students are learning. This will be done through engaging activities, higher levels of questioning, and dialogue between teacher to teacher, teacher and students and student to student. If at any time you have a question about what your child is learning, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.

The school home connection is really important in the success of our school. This year at Little Fort, I will be hosting “Coffee Talks” with parents. This will be a great opportunity for us to have an informal conversation about how Little Fort can help support your child and your family.  Also, the GPTO(Guardian Parent Teacher Organization) is up and running and is always welcoming new members! This can be as much of a commitment and you want it to be. Any amount of time is appreciated! Parent feedback is a vital component of a successful school! We need your input!

Watch for dates and times of both of those events!

I am looking forward to a great school year! Please feel free to contact the school at 224.303.3700 or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns!

In Partnership,

Amy Grossman
