Join Us For Our First African American Male Achievement Initiative Community Design Thinking Session
Next week we will host our first Community Design Thinking Session for our District’s African American Male Achievement Initiative. On December 21 staff, parents, and community members are invited to join us for an opportunity to learn more about this important initiative, and to lend your voice.
We first introduced this initiative earlier this fall. As a school district, we acknowledge that black males are often underachieving compared to their peers while also facing discipline disparities.
In recent weeks and months, we have launched a Task Force for the African American Male Achievement Initiative, made up of parents, staff, and community members. The Task Force is helping guide this work.
We are excited for this first opportunity to share our progress on this initiative. More importantly, we are looking forward to hearing from stakeholders about the potential directions of this initiative and how we can work together as a community to improve outcomes for our African-American male students.
Our first Thinking Session will begin at 6 p.m. on December 21 at Carman-Buckner Elementary School, 520 Helmholz Ave. During the meeting, participants will have an opportunity to participate in several activities where they can share their experiences and help us define what the future of the African American Male Achievement Initiative may look like.
We understand the holiday season is busy, and individuals’ schedules may not permit them to join us for this initial meeting. We will be hosting additional opportunities in the New Year to participate in a Thinking Session with our team.

La próxima semana seremos anfitriones de nuestra Primera Sesión de Reflexión Comunitaria sobre la Iniciativa del Distrito para el Rendimiento de Afroamericanos Masculinos. El 21 de diciembre, el personal, los padres y los miembros de la comunidad están invitados a unirse a nosotros para una oportunidad de aprender más acerca de esta importante iniciativa, y para expresar su opinión.
Presentamos esta iniciativa por primera vez a principios de otoño. Cómo distrito escolar, somos conscientes de que los afroamericanos masculinos a menudo tienen un rendimiento más bajo al de sus compañeros, y al mismo tiempo enfrentan desigualdades disciplinarias.

Estamos emocionados con esta primera oportunidad de compartir nuestros progresos en esta iniciativa. Más importante aún, estamos deseando escuchar a las partes interesadas sobre las posibles orientaciones de esta iniciativa y sobre cómo podemos trabajar juntos como comunidad para mejorar los resultados de nuestros estudiantes afroamericanos masculinos.
