Waukegan High School Junior Victor Hinojosa has again been selected to serve on the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2023-2024 school year. This is Victor’s second year on the advisory council.

Victor, who also serves as the District 60’s Student Board Member, is one of just 25 students statewide chosen for the Student Advisory Council. According to ISBE, Council members are young leaders from across the state who have demonstrated the ability to advocate for educational equity on behalf of all Illinois public school students. Each year students on the council identify areas of focus and collaborate with legislators, educational leaders, and ISBE staff to provide recommendations on how to enhance current education initiatives.

Victor is looking forward to continuing his work on the Council, and building upon the group’s work from last year.

“There are so many incentives and projects I want to pursue in my second year on the Council,” Victor said. “From closing the literacy gap to finding ways to create equitable school funding, there are a multitude of ideas that swirl around me. I am excited to share these ideals to my fellow council members to pursue our common mission, to create a fair, more equitable Illinois.”
