Waukegan High School senior Kennet Amaya was honored as one of College of Lake County's Dual Credit Students of the Year during a ceremony on May 3 at the Washington Campus. Kennet is just one of three students selected out of the 24 participating high schools.

Kennet was selected based on his advanced language skills in his Spanish 223 and 224 courses, his participation in class, and exemplary GPA.

“Kennet has participated enthusiastically in class and has shown leadership by suggesting ideas for the class, as well as helping other students succeed,” said CLC and WHS Spanish Instructor, Ms. Edith Monroy. “His transcript shows that he challenges himself with rigorous courses and works hard to earn a top grade in every course.”

Kennet has earned 9 college credits during his time in the Dual Credit Program, and will enroll in CLC’s Guaranteed Transfer program in the fall to pursue a degree in engineering. As part of the program, Kennet will be automatically accepted into Northern Illinois University’s engineering program after completing his Associate’s Degree at CLC.
