Special Presentations

-Representatives from the Waukegan Public Schools Foundation presented the Foundation’s annual WaukeganStrong Scholarship. 

-Representatives from a Bigger World Foundation gave a detailed presentation about the organization's work in Waukegan and at Lewis Middle School.


Action Items

The Board of Education voted to approve  a vendor agreement between Waukegan Public Schools District 60 and Synovia Solutions to install GPS Tracking Devices on all district vehicles. The agreement is for five (5) years with an annual cost of $13,680 and a total cost of $68,400. The Administration is recommending that all district leased and owned vehicles be equipped with removable on-board diagnostic (OBD) devices. 

The Board of Education voted to approve the second amendment to the Board Resolution-Annual Waiver of Facilities Use Fees for Certain Non-Profit Organizations to include A Bigger World Foundation.

The Board of Education voted to approve the vendor agreement between Waukegan Public Schools District 60 and ACF Technologies to implement a queue management system for services at the Welcome Center, as reflected in the Order Form, the Master Addendum, and the District's SOPPA Form. The agreement is for implementation of the system, training for staff, and the first year of service at a total cost of $12,018.

The Board of Education voted to  approve an Intergovernmental Agreement with the College of Lake County at no cost to the district. The Academic Supports and Programs (ASAP) team is requesting to renew our agreement with the College of Lake County (CLC) to support the district's post-secondary initiatives.  This is a yearly Intergovernmental Agreement that we enter in with CLC in order to provide Washington Campus with a full time intern to support with FAFSA & postsecondary outcomes.

The Board of Education voted to approve the retroactive payment for the total cost for abatement and the district's asbestos consultant associated fees. The total amount is $44,490.

The Board of Education voted to authorize the purchase of furniture for Lyon Magnet in the amount of $84,627. Lyon Elementary is seeking approval to purchase new desks/chairs for teachers from their SBB budget. These desks/chairs match the student furniture that was purchased last school year. 

The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of chromebooks for Waukegan High School in the amount of $51,435.

The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Amplify for additional CKLA resources for McCall Elementary School in the amount of $37,119. CKLA resources support the continued growth of the phonic program at McCall Elementary School.


The Board of Education voted to approve renewal of the online license for Newsela for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year for the amount of $62,801. Newsela has been used in Waukegan Public Schools as a provider of online content that enforces and reinforced student reading skills. It provides resources across content areas for a variety of reading skill levels from 6-12 grades.

The Board of Education voted to renew the contract with LaserFiche. The one-year contract term for recurring services begins on April 01, 2022 and ends on April 01, 2023. The cost of the contract is $32,208 annually. LaserFiche is used in the district to maintain electronic records for staff and students. District also uses this product for customizing the workflows for various departments (ex: FOIA, Budget forms etc).

The Board of Education voted to approve the MDF Project Final Phase - Second Fiber Optic Pathway an annual cost of $498,480.00 for a ten-year contract. On March 4, 2019, the Board of Education approved the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) project that consists of three phases.   Phase 1 preparation of the MDF room, phase 2 installation, and configuration of hardware was completed.  For the last phase, the Information Technology department is requesting the authorization to install a second fiber pathway from Brookside Campus to all district buildings, except 214 Washington. This will allow the district to have a solid network infrastructure that will benefit all buildings in case the primary fiber connection is damaged.

 


Personnel 

The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations, retirements and reclassifications of 16 employees. 

The Board of Education voted to approve the Professional Travel Leave Request for the Outreach Administration Team and staff to attend the National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference (NYAR) to be held in Savannah, Georgia. The dates of the conference are March 4-6, 2022. Staff attending are: Dr. Charmaine Hillary (Director), Carlos Valadez, Terri Waiters, Nilza Martinez, Jacqueline Washington, Paola Pineda, Timothy  Jones,  Charles Bates and Rosetta Klein. The estimated cost which includes the registration fee, hotel accommodations, travel and meals per diem is $24,192.

NOTE: BOE Member Ms. Anita Hanna will attend the conference with the district staff.

The Board of Education voted to approve Rita Reyes, Child Nutrition Specialist for the Child Nutrition and Transportation department, to attend the National School Child Nutrition Conference in New Orleans, LA from April 17-22, 2022. The estimated cost is $2,489, which includes registration, travel, lodging and meals per diem.

The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Ms. Anita Hanna at the 2022 National Youth Advocacy and Resilience Conference in Savannah, Georgia from March 6 to March 9 at an estimated cost of $2,160. Cost includes conference registration, hotel, airfare, and per diem.

The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Ms. Lucy Leguizamo at the 2022 LRP National Legal Institute in Louisville, Ky, from April 24 to April 27 at an estimated cost of $2,750. Cost includes conference registration, hotel, airfare, and per diem.
