District to Host Contractor Workshops Nov 9 & 16

Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60, in conjunction with District architect Wold Architects and Engineers, will host two special workshops aimed at educating local contractors on the process of working with school districts and other public agencies.

 

The free virtual open houses and question-and-answer sessions will be held for all construction and mechanical contractors in the Waukegan and Lake County area. The workshops will take place November 9 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and November 16 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Those interested in participating in the workshop will have the option to do so in person at the Lincoln Center, 1201 N. Sheridan Rd, or virtually using Zoom. Links to join both meetings can be found below:

Topics to be discussed will include: - Working in the public sector: Requirements for qualifications and bonding  - Getting a start with smaller projects/ finding out about projects?  - Public advertisements and web postings and Public Plan Rooms  - Getting the drawings from the Architect/Engineer  - Questions during bidding - Bid Security and prevailing wage  - The Bid Form Requirements, certifications required by Illinois law, and bid security - General Conditions - A201 Insurance and Bonding requirements  - Contracts with school districts  - Getting paid: application for payment  - Developing good public references and referrals  - Community involvement  - Connecting with other local and general subcontractors
