Financial Items

The Board of Education held a Public Hearing on the Proposed 2020 Tax Year Levy. Following the hearing the Board voted to adopt the proposed property tax levy for Tax Year 2020 with levies totaling $55,030,000, excluding the Bond and Interest Fund. The Truth in Taxation Act requires a taxing district to determine at least twenty (20) days prior to the adoption of the aggregate levy of the district amounts of taxes to be levied and where the levy exceeds the prior year extension by more than five (5) percent.  A public notice was given on November 10, 2020 and November 17, 2020 in the Lake County News Sun and a public hearing was held on the district's Truth in Taxation resolution on November 24, 2020 (prior to adoption) which are initial steps in the cycle.  The amount of property taxes extended upon the final aggregate levy for Tax Year 2019 (excluding bonds) was $52,418,691.18.  The estimated aggregate levy for Tax Year 2020 (excluding bonds) is $55,030,000 resulting in an increase of 4.98%. Amounts levied are generally substantially higher than the actual amount that will be received or extended. Monies levied do not exceed 105%; therefore, Truth in Taxation procedures are not required. We are, however, for transparency’s sake, opting to adhere to said procedures.

Discussion Items
