Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to approve 

the purchase of two new Duplo Printer machines, Stands, Document Feeders and supplies for the Brookside Printshop. The estimated cost including shipping is $36,504.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Pearson ELA in the amount of $78,105. 12th grade English Lit/Comp teachers are implementing a new curriculum for Seniors. The teachers spent last year learning the curriculum, materials, and resources in order to fully support the students during the 20-21 SY.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of Achieve 3000 in the amount of $34, 941. The district is entering into the 3rd year of utilizing ACHIEVE 3000 at the high school. This is a renewal cost and was budgeted for in the Teaching & Learning (9-12) ELA budget.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Carnegie Learning in the amount of $79,500. The high school is continuing and expanding the utilization of Carnegie Learning resources for the math courses offered. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the amended FY20/FY21 Amended School Calendar. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Illinois General Assembly passed Senate Bill 1863.  This Bill declares November 3, 2020, a legal holiday for all public schools, and state and local government offices throughout the state of Illinois.  The district Calendar Committee was convened to review the implications of this on the 2020-2021 academic calendar.  Based on the feedback received, it is recommended that the November 3, 2020 student attendance date be moved to May 28, 2021, thus adding one day to the academic calendar.  Upon approval the amended calendar will be submitted to the Lake County Regional Office of Education.  

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of the contract with Asian Human Services in the amount of $320,833. The goal of the partnership between Asian Human Services and the Waukegan School District is to ensure students in elementary schools receive the social and emotional supports required in order to grow to be healthy, happy, and educated adults. Using evidence-based practices, the 6 AHS clinicians will provide students with intensified instruction (CBT, DBT, Art Therapy, etc.) around a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens. The counselors will also provide training and coaching around psychosocial education to staff, teachers and families to support with the continuity of care.  The cost of this partnership will be $320,833.40 which will cover the cost of six counselors providing services to our Elementary Schools from July 1, 2020–June 30, 2021.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the contract with the National Equity Project in the amount of $30,500 for the 2020-2021SY. In support of the District's Equity Plan, the Academic and Support Program's Team would like to partner with the National Equity Project (NEP).  The NEP offers a unique equity framework and approach to leadership development, strategic planning, facilitation, coaching, and teaching.  The NEP assists districts in identifying opportunity gaps to improve learning and education outcomes for all students.  NEP provides equity-focused professional development for districts, non-profits, foundations, and communities.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of the Illuminate Data and Assessment System for the 2020-2021 school year (pending legal review) in the amount of $154,814. Illuminate serves as the district's system to facilitate the efficient collection, sharing, and analysis of student assessment and related data.

 -The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of NWEA MAP for the 2020-2021 school year (pending legal review) in the amount of $140,100. NWEA MAP serves as the district's main local interim assessment used to measure the progress of students in math and reading in grades K-11. 

-The Board of Education voted to approve the renewal of the Amplify for the 2020-2021 school year (pending legal review) in the amount of $68,925.00. Amplify mCLASS is the gold-standard assessment and instructional suite for early literacy that helps every student learn to read confidently. Amplify's mCLASS Intervention is a staff-led reading intervention that does the heavy lifting of data analysis and lesson sequencing for students in grades K-5 who require additional support.

-The Board of Education voted to authorize the Board President to execute the Limited Ground Lease and the Operations Agreement with BQ Energy LLC for development of a solar power project at Yeoman Creek landfill as approved by the Yeoman Creek Remediation Group and as recommended by the Board's special environmental counsel.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the release of Closed Session minutes for the first sixth months of the year. Additionally, the Board voted to  authorize the destruction of verbatim tape recordings provided that legally sufficient minutes of the recorded meeting have been approved by previous action of the Board.
