For the second consecutive year, Clearview Elementary School has been recognized as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Gold Level School by the Midwest PBIS Network. An additional four Waukegan schools were recognized this year as Silver Level schools.

Nearly 700 schools across Illinois were recognized in one of four categories based upon the school’s implementation of PBIS and outcome data during the 2019-20 school year. The PBIS program serves as a way for schools to encourage positive behavior by providing students the opportunity to learn about behavior as they would other subjects like math and literacy.

Gold Level schools are recognized as those that provide tiered support and interventions to all students, have low accounts of office discipline referrals and out of school suspensions, and have shown improved/sustained academic outcomes over the past three school years. It is the second-highest designation a school can receive.

Carman-Bucker Elementary School, McCall Elementary School, Jack Benny Middle School and Jefferson Middle School were all recognized this year as Silver Level schools. Silver Level schools are recognized as those that have implemented at least one tier of interventions with fidelity. They have also improved discipline, including a reduction of office referrals and suspensions.
