-The Board of Education presented a Resolution of Honor in recognition of former Board Member, Mr. Michael Rodriguez, who stepped away from the Board in January after 13 years of service.
Action Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the Calendar Committee's Recommendation for the 3-Year Calendar: 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of three (3) fleet trucks from Taylorville-based Bob Riding Fleet Sales, under a Illinois state purchasing contract at a cost of $129,070.
-The Board of Education voted to approve fees to be waived pertaining to the Beacon Place Theater Workshop being held at Cooke School from March 23, 2020 - March 27, 2020. The cost to the district is $4,965.
-The Board of Education voted to accept the low responsible and responsive bid from Alsip-based Amber Mechanical with a bid totaling $2,430,000 for HVAC upgrades to Daniel Webster Middle School. Added to Amber Mechanical’s bid is an architect fee of 8% payable to STR Partners LLC, a project contingency fee of 10% of construction costs, and the advertisement cost of $494.76, for a total project budget approval of $2,867,664.
-The Board of Education voted to accept the low responsible and responsive bids from Freeport-based Mechanical, Inc. with a bid totaling $4,757,500 for HVAC upgrades to Jack Benny Middle School; and Lemont-based Tecnica Environmental Services, and Chicago Ridge-based Celtic Environmental with bids totaling $335,250. Added to Mechanical Inc.’s bid and Tecnica Environmental Services’ bids is an architect fee of 8% payable to STR Partners LLC, a project contingency fee of 10% of construction costs, an asbestos contingency fee of 10% of asbestos removal costs, an asbestos consulting cost of $27,000, and the advertisement cost of $494.76, for a total project budget approval of $6,009,625.
-The Board of Education voted to accept the low responsible and responsive bid from Oak Lawn-based Krull Window Company Inc., with a bid totaling $645,565 for window replacements at Glenwood school; and Westmont-based Kinsale Contract Group with a bid totaling $77,400. Added to Krull Window Company Inc.’s bid is an 8% architect fee payable to STR Partners LLC, a project contingency fee of 10% of construction costs, an asbestos contingency fee of 10% of asbestos removal costs, an asbestos consulting cost of $65,000, and the advertisement cost of $303.45, for a total project budget approval of $910,596.24.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of 10 Waukegan High School students to the Waukegan Township's Annual HBCU College Tour at a cost to the District of $800 per student for a total cost of $8,000.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the upgrade of video surveillance systems located at Carman-Buckner, Clearview, Glen Flora, Greenwood, Hyde Park, North, Whittier, and Washington Elementary Schools at a cost of $92,110.
Personnel Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 15 employees.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the creation of two (2) E.P.I.C. Parent Liaison positions to work with teachers, administrators, and parents to coordinate and advocate for family involvement in the PreK program, in order to facilitate children’s learning at an estimated cost of $116,120.
-The Board of Education voted to execute the General Counsel Employment Agreement between Kathryn S. Vander Broek and the Board of Education, to be effective on April 1, 2020.
-The Board of Education voted to approve tendance at the Leading for Equity Conference in Itasca, IL for seven employees at a cost of $17,500. The conference dates are February 26-29, 2020. Estimated cost $2,500 per participant which includes conference registration fee (included lodging), travel mileage and meals per diem.
