- Waukegan High School Junior, Van Weddle was officially sworn in as the newest Student Board Member. Van will serve as a non-voting member until January 2021.
-District staff and representatives of the Sheriff’s Office gave a presentation about a new Youth Mentoring Partnership program launching next month.

Action Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the submission of ISBE’s Maintenance Grant. The grant totals $50,000 and the district will have to match the same amount, the final total will be $100,000. The Operations department will be applying for a maintenance grant with the Illinois State Board of Education. The project attached to the grant application will be the Jack Benny HVAC upgrade project valued at $4,757.50.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of BlueStreak Math in the amount of $43,310.85. The Academic Supports and programs team will utilize BlueStreak to provide additional math support to students in grades 3-5 to increase skill development in math fluency and automaticity. BlueStreak Math will be utilized after school in specific buildings and classrooms to provide an added layer of support to students who have not met the NWEA Math promotion/retention criteria benchmark scores.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the payment of fees associated with schematic design and creation of base drawings for Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical totaling $79,735.00, for the property located at 214 Washington Street.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of additional video cameras at the Washington Campus at a cost of $23,195 and upgrades to the systems at both high schools and Lincoln Center. The cost would be $54,500. The total cost for both projects is $77,695.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the third reading of Policy 3705, Multi-Disciplinary threat Assessment Team, as recommended by the Administration.
-The Board of Education voted to approve fees to be waived pertaining to Girls Scouts. This will be held from February 7, 2020 to May 29, 2020 at McCall in the gym from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The cost to the district is $576.
-The Board of Education voted to approve fees to be waived pertaining to Employee Connections Community Youth Leadership Training. This will be held on February 28, 2020 at Brookside Campus in the gym from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. The cost to the district is 332.50.
-The Board of Education voted to adopt the 2020 Census Partnership Resolution. At the January 14, 2020 Board meeting, Mano a Mano presented and requested Board consideration of a proposed resolution of support concerning the importance of a full, fair and complete count of Waukegan school students and families during the 2020 U.S. Census.

Personnel Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 19 employees.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance at the International Society for Technology in Education for Ms. Carol May, Principal at McCall, and Ms. Stacy Jeffers, teacher at McCall, from June 27 through July 1, 2020 in Anaheim, CA not to exceed $6,000 for airfare, hotel, per diem, and conference fees.
-The Board of Education voted to approve and authorize the Board President to execute Amendment No. 11 to General Counsel's Employment Agreement.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the travel up to four trips as needed for two WPS60 staff representatives to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the purpose of teacher recruitment at an estimated cost not to exceed $14,000.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the creation of a Director of Equity and Inclusion position at an estimated starting salary of $125,000 plus applicable benefits. The Director of Equity and Inclusion will lead the implementation of the district’s equity vision and philosophy that champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive environment.
