Dear Incoming WHS Freshman, 

Welcome Class of 2024! It is my pleasure to be the first to welcome you to Waukegan High School. This letter is your invitation to the annual Freshman Open House at Waukegan High School. Open House is an exciting and informative evening for parents and students to begin the transition process to Waukegan High School. 

During this event we will showcase the many wonderful opportunities our high school has to offer and respond to any questions that you may have. We hope that after participating, you and your son or daughter will have a greater understanding of the high school with regards to: course and program offerings, expectations and extra-curricular opportunities. 

Due to the size of the student population, we have scheduled two nights. Please attend the night designated for your child's current middle school.

Abbott, Jefferson and Non-Public Middle Schools 

-Thursday, January 30, 2020 

Benny, Juarez and Webster Middle Schools 

Open House will be held at the WHS Brookside Campus at 2325 Brookside Avenue, Waukegan, Illinois 60085. Upon arriving please park in the east parking lot. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. The evening's schedule will be as follows: 

-6:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Freshman Curriculum and Activities Presentation (Trapp Auditorium for English, Brett Theater for Spanish) - This presentation will include information to prepare for your child's transition to high school. There will be an overview of our academic program with information regarding steps to increase personal and academic success in high school. 

-7:00 pm - 8:00 pm - Activity Fair & Program Q&A The fair will display four academic elective departments and many academic programs will highlight the curricular offerings at Waukegan High School. You will have the opportunity to have your questions answered by staff about required and elective courses, curricular materials and approaches to instruction. Displays representing over several clubs, activities and athletic teams will also be available. A successful student is an involved student. The activity fair will showcase opportunities to become involved.

Esta carta es su invitación a la Casa Abierta anual en la Escuela Secundaria de Waukegan. La Casa Abierta para estudiantes de primer año, es una noche emocionante e informativa para padres y estudiantes para comenzar el proceso de transición a la Escuela Secundaria de Waukegan.

La Casa Abierta se llevará a cabo en WHS Plantel Brookside en 2325 Brookside Avenue, Waukegan, Illinois 60085. Al llegar, estaciónese en el estacionamiento Este. El horario de la tarde será el siguiente: 

6:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Presentación de Currículo y Actividades para estudiantes del Grado 9- (Auditório Trapp o para inglés, Brett Theater para espanol): Esta presentación incluirá información para preparar la transición de su hijo/a a la escuela secundaria. Habrá un repaso de nuestro programa académico con información sobre los pasos para aumentar el éxito personal y académico en la escuela secundaria. 

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm - Feria de Actividades, Preguntas y Respuestas con el personal. La feria mostrará nuestros nueve departamentos académicos y muchos programas académicos realizarán lo que se ofrece en sus currículos en la Escuela Secundaria de Waukegan. Usted tendrá la oportunidad de que el personal responda a sus preguntas sobre cursos requeridos y optativos, materiales curriculares y enfoques de instrucción. Habrá exhibiciones representando a muchos clubes, actividades y equipos deportivos también estarán disponibles. Un estudiante exitoso es un estudiante activo. La feria de actividades mostrará oportunidades para estar activo.
