Special Presentations
-Representatives from Bravo Waukegan gave a presentation detailing some of the work the organization has done recently to assist Waukegan music students.   

Personnel Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, resignations and retirements of 19 employees, including the appointment of Mr. Issac Kirkwood as Interim Principal at Jack Benny Middle School. 
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Amy Barmann, District Director of AVID, to attend the ADL 2 District Leadership Training in Kansas City on October 15 to October 18 at an estimated cost of $1,160.60 which includes conference registration fee, travel, lodging and meals per diem.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the travel, hotel, and conference fees (not to exceed $2,350) for Mr. Jason Siegellak to attend the Institute on the Teaching of Writing K-8 from October 19-24, 2019 in New York.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Dr. Kevin Brown, Ms. Tasia Fields and (5) Middle School Instructional Coaches, to attend the 2019 National Conference One Vision, Three Dimensions (Expeditionary Learning Curriculum) in Atlanta GA. The conference dates are October 16-19. Estimated cost is $2,546,  per person which includes conference registration fee, travel, lodging and meals per diem.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the Orton-Gillingham professional development conference fees and mileage reimbursements in Glen Ellyn, IL for 10 Little Fort Elementary teachers, not to exceed the amount of $13,600.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of the Director of Diverse Learners and the High School DL Coordinator to attend the Literacy and Intervention Executive Summit in Baltimore funded by HMH on November 6-8. The Summit is paid for by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Andrew Aiello, Manager of Technology and Kamika Hopkins-Bey, Video Production Technician, to attend the 2020 NABShow-"The Global Event for Media, Entertainment and Technology Professionals". The conference is to be held April 19-22 in Las Vegas, NV. The estimated total cost is $6,200 or $31,00 per person which includes Registration Fee, Lodging, Resort Fees, Mileage Reimbursement and Meals Per Diem. The purpose of the conference is to allow the Media team to view  the latest in technology and techniques for video production, editing and mass distribution. 
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Linda Unda, Training Support Specialist, to attend Mastering the Fundamentals of Infinite Campus Conference at Roosevelt University in Schaumburg. The training will be held November 19-21, 2019 and the estimated cost is $1,700. The cost includes: Registration Fee, Mileage Reimbursement, Meals Per Diem and Lodging. 
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Board Member Ms. Anita Hanna at the the IATDP 109th Annual Conference, October 19-23, 2019 in Memphis, TN at an estimated cost of $1,700. 
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of 39 individuals from the Waukegan Public Schools to attend the 2019 Illuminate Midwest Conference from November 21-22, 2019 in Grand Rapids, MI in the amount of $21,000. Participants will include individuals from the Department of Assessment, MTSS/SEL, Psychologists, Instructional Coaches, School Data Leads, and School Administrators.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of two (2) WPS60 staff representatives on two (2) separate trips to Nashville, Tennessee for the purpose of teacher recruitment at Fisk University and Tennessee State University, at an estimated cost not to exceed $2,200.00 per trip.

 

Action Items
 -The Board of Education voted to approve the increased cost for the replacement student furniture at Clark, McCall, and Oakdale Elementary schools that was originally approved on July 02,2019, for a total value of $199,834.70.
-The Board of Education voted to adopt a resolution setting forth the parameters and procedures governing use of Board Reprimands to assist in addressing student conduct concerns. Board workshops were held on June 18, 2019; August 20, 2019 and September 17, 2019 wherein members of the Board of Education discussed the use of Board Reprimands to address student behavior concerns and outlined the parameters and procedures to be used going forward with regard to Board Reprimands.
-The Board of Education voted to the payment to Ombudsman Alternative Route in the amount of $144,780 for Ombudsman Plus.
-The Board of Education voted to approve a bid from Alsip-based Amber Mechanical Contractors, Inc. totaling $127,000 for the installation of pre-purchased condenser units at three schools. Added to Amber Mechanical’s bid is an architect fee of $12,000 payable to Wold Ruck Pate, a project contingency fee of 10% of construction costs, and the advertisement cost of $299.34, for a total project budget approval of $151,999.34.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of services, equipment and licenses to continue with Phase II and Phase III of the scanning project. The estimated cost for phase II is $106,695 and phase III is $188,305. For both phases ITS is including a reserve of $30,000 as a contingency to cover additional or unforeseen costs.

Financial Items
-The Board of Education held a public hearing on a request to approve the resolution directing the School District Treasurer to Reserve Funds from the Education Fund for future transfer to the Capital Projects Fund. The funds are reserved for the purchase of 214 Washington Street in downtown Waukegan for an amount not to exceed $700,000. Following the hearing, the Board voted to approve the Resolution to transfer funds from the Education Fund and Operations and Maintenance Fund to the Capital Projects Fund and to restrict funds as indicated for an amount not to exceed $700,000. Purchase of the building was approved by the Board of Education at its September 10, 2019 regular board meeting.

-The Board of Education reviewed revisions to Policy 2203 Board Member Development and Policy 2204 Board Member Expenses.
