Action Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Custodial supplies at a cost of $282,326.
-The Board of Education voted to accept a bid from Northbrook-based F.
E. Moran., totaling $303,000 for the Glen Flora Elementary Chiller
project.
-The Board of Education voted to approve one year contractual agreement
with Dr. Judy Elliott to build consensus and infrastructure to
systematically implement MTSS throughout Waukegan Public Schools at a
cost of $24,000.
-The Board of Education voted to the purchase of the Second Step
(social emotional learning) curriculum from the Committee for Children
at a cost of $27,747. Second Step is used for Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports
for PreK-5th grade student population.
-The Board of Education voted to grant Continuing Resolution Authority
(CRA) to the Superintendent or her designee for ongoing activities that
have financial implications until the Annual Budget has been presented
and adopted. The school district's budget must be adopted by the end of
the first quarter of the fiscal year (September 30).
-The Board of Education voted to waive all facility usage fees for 1
Route 4 Change Inc. The event will consist of a basketball game in the
Main gym at Washington Campus on July 19, 2019 featuring celebrity
athletes. The proceeds will benefit the community of Waukegan and the
high school athletic department.
-The Board of Education voted to all facility usage fees be waived for
Northshore Life and Learning in regard to their Midwest Youth Conference
on June 28, 2019. This will be held in gym A and B at Washington
Campus. The cost to the district is 885.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the Information Technology
Services (ITS) department to renew Access One's contract. The contract
is extending from annual to 36 month, which includes a $5,000 per month
savings.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the Consolidated District Plan
(CDP) as part of the pre-planning process for other federal grant
application submissions.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the AIG proposal for Athletic
Catastrophic Accident Insurance renewal and authorize the Superintendent
to execute and accept the renewal contract.
-The Board of Education voted to accept the recommendation of Brad
West, Consultant for the District's insurance, and to accept the
proposal from Safety National for the District's excess workers
compensation vendor.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the acceptance of the contract
with Employer's Claim Service to continue its third-party
administration services for the District's self-insurance worker's
compensation program.
-The Board of Education voted to approve a bid from McHenry-based Jasco
Electric, with a bid totaling $361,814.00 for the Weiss Field Lights
project and the LED alternate, with an additional cost of $74,186.00 for
Parking lot lights. Added to Jasco Electric's bid is an hourly engineer
cost estimation of $5,000 payable to CS2 Design Group, LLC (Engineers),
a project contingency of 10% of construction costs, and the
advertisement cost of $1,356.00, for a total project budget approval of
$485,956.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the ratified contract with the
Waukegan Paraprofessional Union, and to authorize the President and
Secretary of the Board of Education to sign the agreement on behalf of
the Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 Board of Education.
-The Board of Education voted to approve $4,200 in funding for an
outside speaker and administrative support expense requirements for a
District 60 administrator legal conference currently scheduled to be
held at Miguel Juarez Middle School on August 6-7, 2019.
Personnel Items
-The Board of Education voted to approve a proposed Amendment which
extends the General Counsel's contract through the end of calendar year
2019
-The Board of Education voted to approve the creation of a new
educational support position in the General Counsel's office to provide
paralegal and administrative support beginning in School Year 2020 at a
estimated cost of $55,000, and to approve a Westlaw contract agreement,
associated with that position, at an annual cost of $4,200 for school
year 2019-2020.
-The Board of Education voted to attendance of Superintendent Theresa
Plascencia to attend the CUBE National Conference in Miami on September
26-28, 2019 at an approximate cost of $2,000.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the attendance of Carolina
Fabian, F.A.C.E. Manager at the 2019 Family & Community Engagement
Conference in Reno, NV July 10-July 12, 2019 at an estimated cost of
$1,800. The cost includes: Registration Fee, Airfare, Mileage and Meals
Per Diem.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the creation of seven (7)
additional MTSS positions in District 60. Clearview Elementary and
Jefferson Middle School will receive one FTE apiece, and five additional
FTEs will be split among 14 schools.
-The Board of Education voted to approve and appoint Jennifer
Witherspoon as the Board Hearing Officer for student discipline and
suspension appeal cases beginning July 1, 2019.
-The Board of Education voted to authorize James Sheppard and Roberto
Ochoa to attend the Certified Plant Supervisor (CPS) certification
training and examination conducted by the Illinois Association of School
Business Officials on October 15-17, 2019 at an estimated total cost of
$1,848.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the vacation rollover requests of 10 employees.
-The Board of Education voted to approve for the CORE Team (Scope and
Sequence team ) to attend the Curriculum Mapping Conference in Chicago,
from July 23-July 26, 2019 at an estimated cost of $59,669. The cost
includes: Registration Fee , Per Diem, hotel, salaries, benefits, and
mileage
-The Board of Education voted to approve Instructional Coaches to
attend the Teacher Training Three Day Institute-Center for Biliteracy
from August 6-August 8, 2019 at an estimated cost of $63,387. The cost
includes: Registration Fee , Per Diem, salaries, benefits, and mileage.
-The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments,
resignations, retirements and terminations of 29 employees, including he
appointment of Dr. Gregory Bublitz as the District’s new Director of
Diverse Learners.
